At RMCN we are working to help our seniors to escape their isolation. We have two groups whom we regularly bus to the Werribee Community Garden where they plant and care for a variety of produce, grown for their own use. We also plan various excursions for them to assist in engaging with the wider community. We provide cooked lunches when they return to the Centre.
Our ladies have organised several groups to learn to use the RMCN sewing machines. This has become a very popular activity, in high demand. Instruction in dressmaking is generously provided by our band of volunteers.
We now have some items for sale with Global Sisters
We warmly welcome those who give their time and expertise to assist our clients through contributing to life skills programs, English Conversation groups, the school homework programs, driving lessons, fundraising (eg through Bunnings BBQs)
First Friends who are assigned to a refugee family also play an important part of our volunteering efforts. The goal of this program is for refugees and volunteers to build relationships and participate in cultural exchange as the refugee families resettle. First friends help the family to learn about and adjust to their new culture and environment. First Friends are invaluable in assisting new arrivals to understand public transportation, food shopping, financial literacy and in learning English, as well as connecting them with the various community resources.
To volunteer with RMCN volunteers must have a working with children police-check certificate, fill out a volunteer application and attend a volunteer orientation. Once volunteers have completed the orientation and application process, the Resources Development Coordinator contacts and informs them about the status of their application.
To learn more about volunteer opportunities with RMCN, you are warmly invited to attend one of our Volunteer Orientation sessions. Please contact our Centre via email or telephone (see below)
