The Horn of Africa Communities Network Inc has undertaken a new identity in order to better reflect the changing emphasis of our business model.
Refugee and Migrant Communities Network Inc. (RMCN) is a non-profit community based organization established in the state of Victoria (Australia). RMCN commenced in 2000 helping new arrivals from the Horn of Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan). Since 2014 these services have been extended to all refugee and migrant communities from all walks of life, regardless of nationality. The main nationalities currently accessing RMCN's services are Somali, Southern Sudanese, Ethiopians, citizens from Myanmar, (Chin, Karen, Kachin and Karenni) but all are most welcome.
During this time of isolation we encourage our Work Placement students from Universities to make use of the Internships Link under INITIATIVES above, to utilise online learning and communication facilities to work together with our community.
Newly arrived Refugees and humanitarian entrants from war torn African countries face daily settlement challenges as they strive to navigate their way in their new home Australia to re-establish their new lives. RMCN’s programs assist newcomers by giving them hope for their future and helping them become self-sufficient, productive members of their communities. RMCN provides various educational and community services to African-Australian immigrants and the general public in the Melbourne metropolitan area. RMCN provides to recently arrived families from all walks of life,services including case management, advocacy, referrals to social support services, basic life skill education, social support men’s, women’s and elders social support groups practical and emotional support, and advice.
To Empower newly arrived migrants to have equal access to opportunities and resources in their new home Australia.
RMCN brings its values of empathy, compassion, friendliness, persistence, optimism and dependability to our vision of becoming the most effective community organisation in Australia.
By assisting, supporting and encouraging vulnerable refugee, migrant and asylum seeker individuals and families, in their endeavour to become self-sufficient and contributing members of Australian society, we believe we can make a difference.
We also offer extra care in ensuring that their basic needs are met, while simultaneously working to eliminate the root causes of disadvantage and improving all communities' quality of life.

If you or someone you know is in need of help, please consider contacting us either in person, via phone or email.
To volunteer with RMCN volunteers must have working with children check certificate, fill out a volunteer application and attend a volunteer orientation. Once volunteers have completed the orientation and application process, the Resources Development Coordinator contact and inform them about the status of their application.
